The Oval

On 5 March 1870, England and Scotland played the first-ever international football match. On this day, the seed was planted for football to become the most popular game in the world. The event took place in London, in a venue called The Oval.

Unfortunately, following the globalization trend, in the last decades "The beautiful game" is becaming more business and less game, losing the essence of the sport.

Against this tendency, I wanted to experience football as I did in my childhood. I consider football a universal language, capable to reunite people from different cultures despite their race, age, sex, social status or believes.

"The Oval" project was inspired by this idea, created as a visual metaphor against intolerance and the lack of empathy that is sadly rising over the world, showing that we can recognise ourselves playing the same game in every corner of the planet.
